Doom: The Dark Ages (PC)

Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal were both great games. The DLC for Eternal weren't as good, so with those DLC being the last experience with the franchise, I wasn't very excited for this game. I signed up Game Pass on PC to try it out.

Graphics and Performance

The graphics are good. No better than Eternal in my opinion. Weird textures sometimes. I didn't notice any improvements with raytracing.

The game did load levels really quick, and there were no micro-stutters, which is better than the majority of recent PC games.

Gameplay

I played on the normal difficulty, and had no problems beating the levels, which wasn't the case for Eternal.

There was less manic gun switching and more freedom to play how I wanted, with the exception of the new Maurader replacement that required up close combat.

It has levels that are more open and fun to explore.

There are some breaks from the action with forced flying and a huge robot suit levels, these are fairly boring but fine. They didn't add anything to the game.

Conclusion

Overall it was a great game. Simpler and easier than Eternal, but more complex than 2016. Fun mechanics without tedious weapon switching and guns that only work on certain enemies.

Definitely felt like Doom, with lots of fun action and some other new mechanics id is experimenting with. 7/10
